Voyage Through the Cosmos: My Astrological Journey

In the heart of my childhood home, curiosity was our guiding star, forever leading us beyond the conventional bounds of education. Our family reveled in mathematics, history, science fiction, mythology, and the mesmerizing patterns of my beloved Spirograph. Learning was never confined to textbooks — it lived in questions, patterns, and wonder.
But it was the desert night sky that truly captured my imagination.
Wrapped in blankets beneath the open heavens, my father would tend a small campfire while my mother turned marshmallows into golden treasures. As embers crackled and sparks lifted like constellations of their own, our eyes traced the stars overhead, quietly wondering what stories they held.
That sense of wonder became something more when I was nine years old.
A book titled Jeane Dixon: My Life and Prophecies entered my world like a comet streaking across the sky. Its pages revealed psychic phenomena and astrology far deeper than the surface-level sun-sign horoscopes I had seen before. It suggested that meaning, pattern, and purpose might exist beneath the surface of everyday life.
I was captivated.
Yet even as my curiosity expanded, I sensed there was something missing — something deeper that could explain contradictions I saw all around me. Why did identical twins express completely different personalities? Why did siblings raised in the same household develop opposing worldviews? And perhaps most painfully, why did I struggle with self-confidence despite being surrounded by love and support?
In a family where both my mother and sister displayed strong intuitive abilities, I felt like the outlier. They predicted phone calls before the phone rang and sensed major life changes with uncanny accuracy. My own intuition felt quieter, less certain.
What grounded me was structure.
How My Astrological Journey Became a Path to Self-Understanding
I needed a framework — something tangible, methodical, and precise. Astrology offered that structure.
In 1971, my parents took us to a small bookstore in San Pedro and placed in my hands a plain, 800-page volume: A To Z Horoscope Maker & Delineator by Llewellyn George. Along with it came ephemerides, tables of houses, and blank chart wheels.
I taught myself astrology the only way I knew how — patiently, methodically, and with devotion.
I calculated charts by hand, clipped pages for quick reference, and mapped planetary placements for friends and family. Astrology became my language for understanding personality, difference, and potential. It helped me see that variation wasn’t failure — it was design.
As a preteen, I skipped over complex topics like declinations and planetary speeds, focusing instead on what felt accessible. Over time, those gaps filled in naturally. Astrology, I learned, is not mastered — it is lived.
Years later, the arrival of astrological software transformed the technical process, but not the foundation. I cross-checked every computer-generated chart against my hand calculations, ensuring accuracy before trusting interpretation. The mathematics I learned as a child remained the backbone of my work.
Today, as the founder of SylvanWise Integrated Journeys, astrology remains my anchor. I practice beyond rigid ideas of benefic and malefic planets, beyond fear-based interpretations, and beyond outdated hierarchies. I integrate evidence-based astrology, intuition, mindfulness, and lived experience.
Astrology became the bridge between logic and intuition — the place where knowing myself became possible.
And that, more than prediction or symbolism, is what has made my astrological journey a lifelong companion.
